Sriram Iyer (“Sri”) an interventional cardiologist and vascular medicine specialist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York city has more than 35 years of experience in coronary, peripheral vascular and carotid interventions. Dr. Iyer received his M.B; B.S; M.D. (General Medicine) and D.M.(Cardiology) degrees from the Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospitals, University of Bombay, India. Following a research position in cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH, he underwent fellowship training in interventional coronary and vascular techniques at the Jewish Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI and at the University of Alabama (UAB) in Birmingham, AL. He is Board certified in cardiovascular disease and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI).
Sri is recognized worldwide for his pioneering work in stenting with embolic protection for treatment of extra‑cranial carotid artery disease. He was part of the team that was involved in FDA regulatory approval and roll out of the first coronary stent (Gianturco-Roubin stent) in the United States in 1993. His original, seminal contributions for treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) have been instrumental in providing PAD patients with additional treatment options.
He has published extensively and has served as faculty for many national and international meetings. A gifted teacher, he has mentored and trained several cardiologists and vascular specialists, many of whom are now directors and department heads in hospitals around the world. Sirogen, his patented sirolimus drug product for local peri-adventitial vascular drug delivery, is currently being tested in a multinational Phase 3 randomized Clinical Trial, evaluating its value for improving the outcomes of surgically created AV fistulae to support dialysis, a lifesaving procedure for patients with kidney failure.
